Click only if you've already read the book! I can't believe the series is finished. It was a very satisfying end.
Saturday, I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I found it very entertaining, though some things were left out. The trio of Daniel Radcliffe (as Harry), Rupert Grint (as Ron), and Emma Watson (Hermione), continue to grow as actors. Big kudos also to Matthew Lewis as Neville- he really captures Neville's growing strength and confidence. They're all growing up too fast! Grint and Lewis in particular tower over most of the other kids (and they and Radcliffe are starting to look more like men than boys!). Newcomer Evanna Lynch as Luna was just about perfect. She got the character's dreaminess and surprising insights down well. And as for the "grown-up" actors- Helena Bonham Carter was exactly how I pictured Bellatrix Lestrange when I first read the book. I wish we had seen more of Mad-Eye Moody, Tonks, and Lupin...But Imelda Staunton was so perfectly evil as Umbridge that I almost forgot about them. And of course, Ralph Fiennes is suitably scary as Voldemort. And what little there is of Alan Rickman as Snape is fun.
There were a few parts that dragged (like the Harry/Cho romance, which fizzled worse on screen than in the book), but the training of Dumbledore's Army and the big battle at the Department of Mysteries were terrific (though very different from the book). There were a few nice scenes between Harry and his godfather, Sirus Black (Gary Oldman). Sirius is one of my favorite characters in the series! The Weasley twins escaping from Hogwarts and Umbridge was a scream. There should have been a little more about the Order of the Phoenix. I also really missed the scenes from the wizard's hospital...but the imporant part of that (regarding Neville's parents) was put into another scene, and it worked.
This book is where things started to get dark, and the movie reflects that well. I'm looking forward to seeing the final two books on the big screen.
I love the poster for the film:

It's not just the big three anymore!
